Community Service Policy
Effective February 1, 2000
The Quality Housing and Work Responsibility Act of 1998 requires each
adult resident of public housing to contribute 8 hours of community service
per month to thc community in which thc family resides. Exempted arc
those who arc employed, elderly, disabled, participating in an economic self
sufficiency program, excluded from the state's work requirements or
enrolled on a qualifying state program. The Housing Authority must monitor
thc family's compliance annually and if the family fails to comply, the
Housing Authority must not renew the lease unless the family and the
Housing AUthority enter into an agreement to bring the resident current with
owed hours.
The Mound Housing and Redevelopment Authority will on or before January
1, 2000 notify all families that appear to meet the community service
requirements. Instructions will be provided that will include contacting the
Mound Housing Authority's Executive Director to register for community
service. Any resident found to be in noncompliance with the federal
regulations will have 30 days to makeup any missed hours. Failure to make
complete 8 hours of community service per month will result in termination
of thc tenants lease upon cxpiration.
