2002-09-05MOUND CITY COUNCIL MINUTES SEPTEMBER 5, 2002 The City Council of the City of Mound, Hennepin County, Minnesota, met in special session on Thursday, September 5, 2002, at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall. Members Present: Mayor Pat Meisel, Councilmembers David Osmek and Mark Hanus. Members Absent: Councilmembers Bob Brown and Peter Meyer. Others Present: City Manager Kandis Hanson, City Clerk Bonnie Ritter, Fire Chief Greg Pederson, Jeff Andersen, Miles Britz, Nancy Schultz, Finance Director Gino Businaro. 1. OPEN MEETING The meeting was called to order at 6:37 p.m. by Mayor Meisel. 2. WORKSHOP ON PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY ISSUES Chief Pederson presented the bids that were opened on September 4. Due to poor soils, bids were approximately $250,000 over the estimated amount. Discussion took place with regards to the feasibility of delaying the project start date, which would save the typical Fall/Winter construction costs. Some of the bid overage could be made up by doing a comprehensive bid package, along with not having to do the extensive soil work that would be necessary for a Fall/Winter project. Discussion took place regarding the proposed lease for temporary housing for the fire department. Pederson informed the Council that John Dean will move forward to get First Right of Refusal on the lease. The Public Safety Facility Groundbreaking scheduled for September 17th is hereby cancelled. 3. REVIEW AND DISCUSS CORRESPONDENCE WITH CONTRACT CITIES Discussion took place regarding the contracts with the neighboring cities that Mound Fire Department services. It was noted that a RFP was received from Orono for fire coverage. It was the consensus of the Council to try to set up a meeting with Orono to discuss fire coverage, on October 3, 2002. Hanson will determine if this date is agreeable to the City of Orono. 4. ADJOURN MOTION by Osmek, seconded by Hanus to adjourn at 9:35 p.m. All voted in favor. Motion carried. ~,t~st: Bonnie Ritter, City Clerk Mayor Pat Meisel L
