1935-02-05 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Mound Village Council held Feb 5th 1935 Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the regular of the Mound Village Council,was held in the basement of the State Bank of Moun~, Tuesday ~eb Bth 19EB at @ P.M. Officers present- W.C.Huestis President,Trustees ¥~-~t, March, Tuff and Norton, Trustee~ Yost absent. Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved as read~~ Report of the Welfare Board, stated that 12 families were on releif, a wooded tract had been purchased by the Board for $6§.00, and eight men had been cutting wood, which when sold would help to pay for groceries and eSS. A motion by Trustee Tuff Seconded by Ma~ch, that M~s.Olihe Gunderson be paid $6§.00 for the wooded tract, which was acquired for the benefit of the Welfare work,. Motion carried. AN9 Road Committee reported that the sidewalks and roads had been cleaned by some of the .men who needed releif. A motion by Trustee Tuff that Dr.J.P.Wilkins be appointed as health Officerfor the Village of ~Mound, for the year 19$5,Motion Carried. A motion by Trustee March that all common labor be allowed 35cents per hour, Motion seconded by Tuff,Motion Carried. Bills~' were read and on notion by March seconded by Tuff, that bills be paid and clerk instructed to issue warrants for same, Motion carrled~ Motion by Trustee T~ff that J.C.Stein be allowed $50.00 for the Month of Jan'y 1955, Motion Carried. A letter from the Adjt. of the American Legion Post 398, donating the Legions share or interest in the Flood Lights, used at the Park and Skating rink, to 'the Village was read,and the Clerk was instruc~ted to w write a letter of thanks for same. ~ A letter from T.M.Thomson, Chairman of the Legislative Committee, for Veterans of Foregn Wars, was read aSso a Resolution to be presented to the present Legislature asking help for the disabled Veterans, who were not on the pension rolls, not being able to prove direct service connection, and asked that the Village Council adopt said Resolution, Aftersome disscussion, a ~Motion by Trustee Tuff., seconded by March, that said Resolution b~ adopted, & on roll call Yeas; Tuff, March, Horton, Nays.;None. Reso'lu'tion Was declared adopted. RESOLUTION U?JANINOUSLY ADOPTED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF MOUND~ Whereas, many of the rsidents of our Village are in needy and destitute circumstances, and the Village is ~axed to the utmost to extend needed relief to such destitutes and needy residents, many of themdisbaled veterans of the Wor~ld War; ~ "Whereas, in the past ,since the formation '~of o~r great Nation, thru National Goverr~menthas always cared for disabled veterans and their needy Tami Ii e s; · ~ And whereas; due to the~ depression, t~he National Governmenthas found it neccess~ry to cease caring for many disabled veterans who are not able to prove direct service connection,~ many of them combat veterans who are unable to prove service ~connectios o~ accoun~t of it b~ing ~ impossible to' keep accurate records in the front line trenches; And Whereas, it has therfore become necessary for the State and local ?[unicipalities to provide relief for such disabled veterans, :~ho have been removed from Federal pension rolls, and who arein need; And whereas,the burden of carin~ for i, ts disabled veterans and their familiesis to great a burden for this Village and its Taxpayers; BE IT RESOLVED THEREFORE, that the Legislature of the State of ~innesota now in session, be petitioned to aporooriate the sum of $$~800.00 for the years of 19~ ~ 195~ for the purpose of investigating and h~dling claims of disabled veterans; AND? BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED? that this resolution be sent t~ the Department of ~innesota , Vetersns of Foreign Wars, for Presentation to the Legislature of the Sta~eeE ~ginnesota. The Auditing Committee reported they had examined the Treasurers books for the year ~lgZ~ and found them correct. Diotion by Tuff Seconded by March t~t the Auditing committees report on the Treasurers books be accepted, ~otion carried. The Auditing Co~ittee reported ~they had examined the Clerks Books ~d found them correct for th~ year ~ot~on by Tuff seconded by ~iarch , that the Auditing committees report on the Clerks Books be acceoted, ~otion carried. The Committee appointed to investigate a sfe ~d the prices thereof, reported, a fire proof safelarge enou~h for the (~illage reoords, could be purchased from SHAW ~?ALKER C~~ for $9~.00,0ther and a little cheaper were to large and the cost of delivery would make them more expensive, than a new one from Shaw ~Walker Co. A motion by tuff seconded by march, that the Village purchase the New Safe from Shaw ~alker ~o of ~inneapolis ~inn. for the sum of ~9.00 , ~otion C~rried. Tae S~pt. of Water Works System was instructed to measure the de~th Wter ~ins, When ~d where each~devery water connections are mame here~ter , to keep a record of same also to furnish an affadavit when Wa~er ~ainsdo not have a cover~e of seven feet, and record the depth of s~e.
