1948-07-20940 VILLAGE OF MOUND ~[INUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR I'i,'[EETINC~ OF THE COUNCIL HELD JULY ~Oth, 1948. Responding to roll-call at this meeting were LDayor Wm I. Davis, Councilmen Newc,omb, Pierce, and ~inkel,, with Alwin present to record. The meeting opened with a hearing given to ~r. Zi~m~erm,~n of the Dominion Co. with reference to chemicalizing village Water to prevent lime deposits in the mains and water odors at the~taps; also to prevent corrosion. The persistant argument being that the cost would be by far offset in. the saving of equipment. The matter was postponed for later action. The council heard Vern Von EsChen on needed repairs to Dell Street, involving the cutting down of a knoll, the removal ~f road-bed peet~and refilling, and the laying pf blacktop. The matter was dismissed for later consideration. Von' Eschen presenting the matter of a smoke nuisance in connection '~with the burning of saw, dust at the village dump, the council, without motion, authorized the clerk to,write to the Clark Co. of Spring Park to dump their sawdust without fUture burning. On the application of Robert H. Neises for an 0n-Sale ~.9% beer license to operate a tavern at Lot 2~, Subdiv. of Lots 1-~2, Ravenswood, this supported by a petition signed by fifty Or more residents of the neighborhood, the council by general agreement referred the matter to the Liquor Committee. Inquiry with reference to a curb and gutter fronting the postoffice and new co~.~ercial buildings on either side was referred to attorney Wolner to determine as to whether Road Funds could be used for this purpo s e. A motion by Newcomb, supported by Alw,in., to accept the bid of the National Cash Register Co. in the amount of $~i0.00 to~ supply a'' cash register to the Liquor Store was mutually withdrawn in order to include the offer of the Burroughs Adding Igachine Co. in the bidding, all of the bids to be given consideration at the next regular meeting of August Zrd, 1948. It was, therefore, moved by Alwin that all bids before the counc il be rejected, and that the council authorize a re-advertisement for bids and that the same be opened and considered at the next regular meeting of Au~ust Zrd, 1948. Pierce seconded this motion, the council carrying. On a motlonbby NlnkeZ'~: Newcomb seconding, the council accepted the bid~ of the Tonka Electric Co. in the amount of $719.00 to wire and install all electrical equipment in connection with pump No. ~ There being no bids for the work to connect~ump No. 3,'.':~xcept the courtesy offer of the Alexander ConstructioHyto supply the labor for $500.00 and to charge for material as available and a~p~ices then current, it was moved by ~inkel that the village readvertise for bids for the plumbing work of pump No. G. This was supported by Newcomb, the council carrying. VILLAGE OF MOUND 941 The council received the bids of the Cutler ~{otor Sales Co. of I~inneapolis and of the DeLmo Service Garage of Delano, Minnesota. with reference.~o the purchase of a'Jeep with attachments, such bulldozer, Logdin~ shovel~, and other attachments, the bid of Cutler l:~otor Sales being $1~794.22, and of the Delano Garage being $1,919.42. The Delano Garage including in its offer the equipment of Over-Load f~on~;wheels, it was moved by ?finkel, supported by Pierce, that the council accept the offer of the Delano Garage. "J", No. 3168-J, Int. 3/15, 9/15 ........ 500.00 Winkel seconding the motion for the adoption of the above resolution, the vote oftt he council stood unanimous. And so the resolution stood adopted. The council received the report of A. S. Newcomb which presented ~ sufficient funds in the Bond & Interest Fund and in the Special ~ Assessment Fund to pay off all bonds with interest still remaining~ unpaid in all issues up to and i~cluding ProJedt 7, and which recon~ended that a resolution be passed at tne next regular meeting of August ( 3rd authorizing the Clerk to notify the County Auditor to strike ~ the corresponding assessment~ from the recordS.~ ( ~d The matter of a salary for Treasurer .~ na Gooder, preaented by Newcomb, was postponed for action at the regular meet&ng .of August 3rd, 1948 On a motion by Newcomb, seconded by Winkel, the council awarded the additional pay of $50.00 to Feral. Schwartz for work in the Liquor Store. On a motion by Wi~fl~el, Alwin supporting~, the council approved the bill of~Ted A. Thomas in the amount of $862.25. It being proposed by ~#inkel that the water main on ~[aple Street5 in the village subdiv, of Lakeside Park be extended to meet the main on Todd Ave., this as an emergency measure and without the mediun~ of frontage petition, it was the advice of attorney ~f~olner that the village engineer make such a reco~endation to the council. After a discussion of fines in connection with parking violations, the council, by general agreement, authorized, the clerk to notify the Justices to limit their fines to $~.O0, including costs.
